Overprint

The studio

Six people in Dublin, working mostly in print, since 2021.

Studio

Print-first, and unfashionably so

“A design that has not been through production has not been finished. It has been presented.”

Overprint is six people on Windmill Lane. Identity, editorial, packaging and typography, with roughly seventy percent of our output ending up on paper or board. That is an unusual balance in 2032 and it is deliberate.

Working in print imposes a discipline that screen work does not. A colour either separates correctly or it does not. A grid either holds across 210 pages or it fails visibly. There is a proof, and somebody signs it. We think that discipline makes the screen work better too, which is why we have never split the studio into print and digital teams.

Three ways we work

All three are quietly unusual and all three come up in every first conversation.

We present one recommendation

Two routes are developed, one is recommended, and we say why. Presenting three and asking the client to choose transfers a judgement they are paying us to make.

Artwork is taken to proof

We speak to your printer, supply files in their preferred spec, and check the first proof. A handover that stops at a PDF is half a job.

You own everything

Source files, artwork and fonts licensed in your name. No licence back to us, no retainer required to make a change later.

Who is here

Six people, no account managers — you talk to whoever is doing the work.

We run three projects at a time and will tell you honestly if the timeline does not work.
